Acupressure (Back to Top)

Acupressure In this form of therapy we use our fingers to apply pressure to specific points along the energy lines of the body to establish overall health and vitality by balancing your energy flow.

CranioSacral Therapy (Back to Top)

Cranio Sacral Therapy focuses on gently unblocking the flow of fluid in your spinal column and the bones of your head, spine, and pelvis.  This is a semi closed hydrolic system of the membranes and fluid that surround the brain and the entire spinal cord.  Very light touch is placed on strategic spots of your body to bring into harmony the three major pulses of your body; Brain, Blood and Breath; or the nervouse system, the circulatory system, and the respiratory system.  A good analogy is the way your car needs the timing system calibrated to make the parts of your car's engine work effectively.  Craniosacral Treatments require a minimum of thirty minutes of quiet and stillness.  I have seen people who could not be still for ten minutes stay in craniosacral therapy for over an hour.  The experience can be an amazing awakening. CranioSacral Therapy has a fascinating history.  It began during our civil war when a Doctor of Osteopathy named Andrew Taylor Still first theorized about this system.  John Upledger D.O. is the third doctor to carry on Dr. Stills' research.  The Upledger institute in Florida boasts half a century of research on Canio Sacral Therapy.  CST has been known to help alleviate a wide variety of problems including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, TMJ, and Fibromyalgia.

Deep Tissue Massage (Back to Top)

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of Massage Therapy that carefully applies pressure to the second and third layers of muscle, which are closer to your bones.  Deep Tissue Massage is highly effective for balancing the mechanisms of muscular interaction; thus correcting misalignment of posture and releiving compression in joints.  Deep Tissue Massage also increases the flow of blood and synovial fluid in your joints thus lubricating them.  This type of Massage can also releive pain and release scar tissue caused by repetative motion and impact injuries.  Some reasons for chosing this type of treatment are carpel tunnel, low back pain, numbness in fingers and toes, rotator cuff pain and any restriction of motion in our limbs.

Lymphatic Drainage (Back to Top)

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy gently and rhythmically moves the lymph through the body.  While all Massage techniques move the lymphatic system, Lymphatic Drainage concentrates on areas of the body that have large clusters of lymphatic nodules.  As both a preventive and repairing technique, Lymphatic Drainage can be used for a wide range of purposes including faster recovery from injury, reduction of swelling, releive discomfort from pregnancy, and strengthened resistance to illness.

Medical Massage (Back to Top)

Medical Massage differs from Wholistic and Spa Massage in that the treatment is specifically directed to resolve conditions diagnosed by a medical doctor.  Generally only one modality is selected during the treatment, and the treatment is focused on one specific area of the body related to the diagnosis.  Medical Massage is covered by insurance.

PNF PNR (Back to Top)

PNF & PNR, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation or Re-education is also called Neuromuscular Rhabilitation.
This technique is a gentle form of streching that restores our bodies function and perception of that function.  Proprioception is the awareness of posture, movement, equilibrium, and the knowledge of an objects position, weight and resistance in relationship to our body.  Proprioceptive Receptors are muscle spindles, golgi tendon organs, pacinian corpuscles, and labyrinthine receptors.  PNF restores the function of these receptors and corrects problems of range of motion for our limbs and spine.  Some of the problems addressed by PNF are back pain, fibromyalgia, and stroke victims.

Polarity (Back to Top)

Polarity is the transfering of positive and negative electrical charges from muscle to muscle to release muscle spasm.  Polarity can be subtly engaged during any type of massge treatment or can be done exclusively as a specific treament style.  It is always a painless and powerful technique.

Reflexology (Back to Top)

Reflexology is a type of massage treatment that focuses on applying pressure to the specific nerve zones in your feet.  Unlike other foot massages that intend to mostly relieve tension in the feet themselves, reflexology is a far more in-depth science that aims to harmonize your entire body.  According to reflexology, every part of the human body is mapped into the feet.  Reflexology treatments have been found to be highly effective for many conditions.  A few examples are allergies, headaches, and depression.

Sports Massage is vital to an athletes' conditioning program. Sports Massage is an effective way to increase an athletes' awareness of muscle function and promote the body’s natural immune function. Sports Massage is actually orthopedic massage with a greater focus on the area of the body that gets the most injury associated with a specific sport. Sports Massage teatments include deep tissue, acupressure. active and passive stretches (also called strain counterstrain), PNF, Polarity, trigger point, Tui' Na, Shiatsu and Cranio Sacral. Wholistic Sports Massage treats opposite parts of the body equally to balance the entire body and increase range of motion of the limbs and of the fibers within the mucles; and increase endurance, strength and power in the muscles; and pays extra attention to the injured area and or the area most excessively used.

Trigger Point Therapy is a technique of massage therapy that focuses on stimulating and releasing “trigger points” in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle tissue rather than along the energy pathways of the body.  These points are built up throughout a person’s life due to physical, mental and emotional stress. During a treatment, pressure is applied through a variety of techniques in order to release your trigger points.   This process can be painful at times, yet very effective.  This method of therapy has proven particularly effective in helping carpal tunnel and other repetitive motion injuries.  Trigger Point Therapy is also known as Myotherapy and Neuromuscular Therapy.

Shiatsu and Zen Shiatsu Massage are Japanese forms of massage. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words, "shi" (finger) and "atsu" (pressure). In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of energy ( Qi ) throughout the body.
